Mmmm…the beginning...

The original caramel started it all and is derived from Jane Drake Cummings’ four generation old family recipe. Jane, who has been married to my father for over 30 years, first shared her family secret with me when I was 12…let’s just say that I have been making these caramels a LONG time. For years, I gave them as holiday gifts to family and friends. The idea of trying to sell these candies has been suggested numerous times, but it was in 2006, when Jane became ill with Lymphoma for the second time, that we discussed in earnest selling her delectable caramels.

The first retail outlets to carry Mouth Party caramels were the coffee bars and gift shops associated with the Johns Hopkins Hospital. My father, Dr. Charles Cummings, has worked at Johns Hopkins Hospital as a head and neck surgeon specializing in oncology for over 20 years, his wife Jane received treatment for her Lymphoma at Hopkins and is committed and very involved with the Johns Hopkins Women’s Board. So, it seemed a perfect place to begin.

In the five years since its inception, Mouth Party has won the hearts and stomachs of many! We have grown and have expanded our products to include seven standard flavors and five seasonal flavors of caramels, as well as three varieties of caramel sauces. Our products are available in our online store and are also available in over 90 retail locations; hospitals gift shops, tea and coffee houses, cafes and restaurants, gourmet specialty shops, grocery stores, and home, garden and apparel boutiques. Mouth Party is founded on the commitment to help advance cancer research ‘one sweet bite at a time’. We are dedicated to giving back to our local, national, and global community. It is Jane’s fight and that of my remarkable sister Lee Cummings Rhodes, a 3-time lung cancer survivor, which has fueled our desire to donate ten percent of our company net profits to cancer research and efforts that heighten public awareness of cancer associated problems.
